Have you thought about IT? It being anything beyond your own wants or what notification has popped up on your cell in the last 2 seconds. I was driving down the road and went over a large overpass that I cross frequently when a thought struck me. What extraordinary work and engineering had to go into making that interchange with all the different roads coming and going in the same small area. How did they set the exact height of the bridges, and the curve so that a car could continue down the road at a certain speed? Another day I was changing my bed sheets and looked at the seams on my bed and knew someone had to sew them. Glasses must be created by someone because I know I didn’t make them. Have you taken time to consider the craftsmanship in things around you? Develop some curiosity about what it takes to make something you use and take for granted each day.
Many things are taught in colleges, but there are still an enormous amount of skills and professions that would require a simple trade certification. It is incredible how so many things are made in this world, and not all are done by machines alone. As the world grows more mechanized, we must take the time to look at things and see the human workers behind the finished product. Enhance your curiosity about what level of effort it takes to create something, and appreciate it enough to take great care of it for a very long time. In this culture of instant buying, and replacing, of things… it is important to stop and appreciate things deliberately since we do not have to create much of what we have in our homes like was done for millennia in the past. If you appreciate it you tend to take better care of it. Give the items and people around you some consideration and understand that things are made by someone’s hard work, no matter what it is.
