Hello All, I read this while doing research for a class assignment and thought it was a timely thought to share given the way the political climate is at the present time. This message struck me and I profoundly hope it speaks to you as well. I’m sure you won’t guess who said it…
”I believe in America because in it we are free – free to choose our government, to speak our minds, to observe our different religions;
- Because we are generous with our freedom – we share our rights with those who disagree with us;
- Because we hate no people and covet no people’s land;
- Because we are blessed with a natural and varied abundance;
- Because we set no limit to a man’s [or woman’s][sic] achievement – in mine, factory, field, in business or the arts, an able man [or woman][sic], regardless of class or creed, can realize his ambition;
- Because we have great dreams – and because we have the opportunity to make those dreams come true.”
This was part of “The Faith that is America” article written by Wendell Willkie in December, 1939, Reader’s Digest. He was the Republican candidate for President against Franklin D Roosevelt at the end of the Great Depression.
I hope over the Thanksgiving holiday we call take a moment to consider how blessed we are to be in such an amazing country, unlike any other in the world. Hold your family tight, and never abdicate your freedom or take it for granted.
